AI + Humans: Why the Real Bottleneck Isn't Intelligence — It's Coordination

Why integrating AI doesn't automatically speed a business up — and how to build the missing team-level operating layer that coordinates AI agents, integration platforms and human decision makers into a system that actually works.

Integrating AI into a business process does not always lead to an accelerated outcome.

I've seen AI tools and systems waste a lot of time, and I've come to realise that we, the humans, are still the bottleneck.

Defaulting to AI can turn a simple task into a complex one.

I've watched people spend hours designing prompts, connecting tools, testing agents and troubleshooting edge cases for work that could have been completed in ten minutes by someone who understood the process.

The AI implementation becomes the project.

The original business problem gets forgotten.

Integrating everything with an AI like Claude is not always the answer either.

People can stop thinking for themselves.

They might produce something different from what they would have created without AI, but different does not automatically mean better.

For example, I can now use Remotion to create videos with 3D animation and graphic overlays.

That gives me access to a level of production that would previously have required specialist software, technical experience and a video editor.

But the output is not necessarily better than hiring an experienced editor who can achieve the same result.
